culvert | types of culverts | box culvert | construction of box culvert | civil engineering

 Culvert:

culvert means a types of structure which allows water to flow under a rail road, road or any obstruction from one side to other side.

Types of culverts:

  • slab culvert
  • box culvert
  • single pipe culvert
  • multiple pipe culvert
  • single arch culvert
  • multiple arch culvert
Box culvert:
It is a short span bridge , over highways, water ways, railways etc.

Steps for construction of box culvert:

  1. Layout and excavation:
  • Layout of any structure shows the plan of its foundation on ground surface according to its drawings.
  • After this excavation work will be carried out exactly.
      2. Compacting the soil:
Soil compaction must be done to reduce the void space between soil particles.

      3. Laying of profile correction course (PCC):

       4. Placing of reinforcement for raft (foundation):

            5. Shuttering for raft foundation

            6. Casting of raft

            7. Shuttering for bottom haunch:

             8. casting of bottom haunch

             9. Fixing of distributor rods for vertical wall portion:
Horizontal reinforcement called as distributor rods. Vertical reinforcement called as vertical                     rods. These vertical rods will be provide for both inner and outer faces.

             10. Shuttering for wall portion ( will vary depends on wall height)

             11. Staging for slab along with top haunch

                  12. Slab reinforcement:

                13. Casting of slab:

                 14. curing for every step to be done with gunny cloth:

friction slab | civil engineering

Friction slab: The friction slab is used only in reinforced earthen wall panel.  The frictional force between concrete slab and base is accompanied by horizontal slab movements induced by the variation of temperature and moisture in concrete slabs. this frictional force acts in opposite direction of the slab movement and develops stress in the slab.
